Der Band bündelt jüngere Forschungstendenzen, indem er die italienischen Stadtkommunen anhand der Leitbegriffe „Akteure“, „Artefakte“ und „Abläufe“ untersucht. Mit diesen Analysekategorien werden gezielt aktuelle, besonders dynamische Forschungsansätze aufgegriffen, um kommunale Entwicklungen neu zu perspektivieren. Indem die Beiträge bislang übersehene Interdependenzen und Interaktionsräume sowie bisher vernachlässigte Kommunikationskanäle und Transformationen sichtbar machen, ermöglichen sie ein besseres Verständnis für Beziehungsgeflechte und Prozesse des kommunalen Alltags.
